Since SEAT become part of the VW Group it has been producing exciting and dynamic models challenging traditional design concepts and changing consumer perception. Every year SEAT has been reporting healthy sales figures and an increase in market share.
This year is no exception; the Spanish car maker is bringing in 2011 on a high after it reported breaking a raft of sales records both here in the UK and in its home market of Spain. The SMMT has confirmed that for the past 12 months SEAT has attained a market share of 1.62% which beats its previous best of 1.50%, which was registered in 2009.
It was also reported that in December 2010 SEAT had a market share of 1.65% which matches its best record in 2003 - during the credit happy financial period. SEAT’s new car sales in the UK have been increasing, the total of 32,935 units for 2010 has comfortably eclipsed 2009’s figure of 29,987 units. 2010 was only the fifth time in the brand's 25-year history in the UK that its sales have exceeded 30,000.
SEAT has succeeded with its stylish and engaging line up which includes the Ibiza supermini, the sporty Leon hatchback, the practical Altea and the capacious new seven seating Alhambra. The brand’s new multitronic gearbox and CO2 efficient engines will debut this year to further enhance SEAT’s green credentials.
Company President James Muir said: "Securing leadership in the Spanish market is a sign of the comeback SEAT is making. This success in the domestic market will help us boost the growth of our brand across Europe."
Managing Director of SEAT UK, Peter Wyhinny said, "With one of the youngest volume manufacturer line-ups out there, plus a strong and successful network of dedicated dealers nationwide, SEAT is ideally placed to build on the success of 2010. Over the next 12 months I expect us to accelerate our continued growth here in the UK as we look to support SEAT's ambitious plans throughout Europe."
