Mazda gets the blue light

The National Police Improvement Agency (NPIA) and Mazda have recently signed a new four year contract which will see the UK’s 54 police forces have access to models like the Mazda 3, Mazda 6 and Mazda CX7. These vehicles will be used for covert and special operations.



This is the first time Mazda has been approved as a Police vehicle supplier, the Police force along with the Fire, NHS and coastguard will have access to buy these vehicles via the new four year agreement.



The new agreement has been arranged in partnership with the National Association of Police Fleet Managers, the Association of Chief Officers and the Police Federation. The agreement helps consolidate the purchase of a range of different types of vehicle, from 'beat car' to high level 'traffic' specification.



Mazda's Regional Corporate Sales Manager - Jason Jenkins, said: "Mazda has supplied cars to a number of police forces for many years. Police fleet managers have opted for our vehicles due to their reliability, responsive engines and agility. This is the first time that we have applied to be included within the official framework within one of the 18 police vehicle categories. We are delighted to have won approval in that category and, as a result, we anticipate that Mazda sales to police forces will increase significantly."



With its 260bhp and 380Nm of torque the Mazda 3 MPS is predicted to be highly popular with the Police force, the MPS can do 0-62mph in 6.1 seconds and has a regulated top speed of 155mph. On average, the police force spends £83 million per year on about 5,600 vehicles across a number of makes and models, this new agreement is said to offer the force a saving of £3 million.



With this agreement in place we will see an increase in the number of cheap used Mazda models available in the used car market, which is brilliant news for used car buyers.
