The first i-MiEV gets sold in London

On the 28th of January Mitsubishi Motors celebrated the sale of the first i-MiEV in London, the car was sold at the Putney dealership where the first i-MiEVs were handed over to London based customers. A mix of Mitsubishi Motors Head Office staff and EV Sales Centre personnel gathered at the Putney dealership with the Mayor of Wandsworth and other representatives from The Office of Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV) and the SMMT to mark the occasion.



The Managing Director of Mitsubishi Motors UK, Lance Bradley was present at the dealership and said, "Today sees the fulfilment of our plan to place London at the forefront of our electric vehicle sales operation. Starting with London, our strategy sees every area of the country being covered by Mitsubishi EV Sales Centres including big cities such as Manchester, Edinburgh, Newcastle, Birmingham, Belfast and Milton Keynes."



The i-MiEV is eligible for the Government’s £5000 Plugged-In Car Grant because it has met a wide range of rigorous safety, emissions and performance standards set by OLEV. Mitsubishi claim that the i-MiEV is more than just a zero emissions car; it is the brands first mass-produced electric vehicle and will set new standards for the automotive industry.



The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson gave his full backing to the electric vehicle and said, "It is fantastic news that Londoners are now starting to get their hands on an exciting new generation of electric cars such as the i-MiEV. In April I am launching Source London to make electric driving more convenient and to make charge points easier to access."



The i-MiEV has been designed to cut emissions in city centres but, in time I believe it will become the norm to see the i-MiEV line up with other used cars in York and treated just as any other car.
