The VW Scirocco gets a boost

Volkswagen reintroduced the Scirocco in 2008; it is VW’s sporty small family hatchback. The third generation Scirocco is built at the VW plant in Palmela, Portugal and is based on the VW Golf Mark five and Seat Leon Mark two.

The Scirocco is available with a wide choice of engines, the entry level model is the 1.4 litre TSI which produces 120bhp, and the same engine is available with VW’s BlueMotion technology. The next model up is the 1.4 litre TSI with 158bhp, followed by a 2.0 litre producing 207bhp. The range topping petrol model is the Scirocco R which has a 2.0 litre TSI engine producing 261bhp.

There are two diesel options to choose from, both are 2.0 litre turbo powered - available with either 138bhp or 168bhp. All models include a standard 6-speed manual transmission. The 1.4 TSI (158bhp) model includes an optional 7-speed DSG transmission, all the 2.0 litre models including the TDI have an optional 6-speed DSG transmission.

VW’s have always been a good choice for tuners and the Scirocco is no exception, APS of Brackley is pleased to unveil a stage one engine performance upgrade for the powerful and economical 138bhp 2.0 TDi Volkswagen Scirocco Coupe. APS were able to carry out a detailed analysis of the characteristics of the ECU calibration and engine output from the 2.0 litre turbo diesel engine and it revealed potential for further performance enhancements.

The APS stage one Scirocco 2.0 TDi now boasts 170bhp and a meaty 292lb.ft of torque and this combined with peak power arriving at a just 3670rpm, makes for an exciting drive. APS claim the fuel economy is not affected, the stage 1 upgrade costs £499.00 fitted and can be applied to a used Volkswagen Scirocco in Rhyl.
