I bought my 2 year old Audi A3 last year; it’s been really good to me with no mechanical failures and has given me decent return on fuel. It is the 2.0 litre TDI so it gives me around 50mpg around town and on the motorways. I’ve done 10,000 miles in it since I got it, so it’s due a service next month. It will be out of the extended Audi warranty the month after so I want to get a decent service done so that any issues can be highlighted and rectified before the warranty runs out.
I’m in two minds, whether to take it to an
Audi Service London dealership or to take it to my local independent. I trust my local independent; he has been our family mechanic for years and has always been good to us. Because the A3 is still quite new I want to maintain its "full Audi service history" but, I’m worried that Audi will charge me an arm and leg to give the car a once over. Audi service costs are very competitive against any local independent so that is not really an issue.
These new cars have so much technology that I fear only Audi will be able to service it properly and point out any issues, also only Audi will know about any known issues or even recalls. I’m thinking the best thing to do is maybe get my local independent to just give it a once over and give me a report of any faults he may find and then take it to Audi for a regular service and ask them to fix any of the identified issues under warranty.
At the same time I will probably sign up for an Audi service plan, that way I won’t have to worry about unexpected service bills. I’ll spend next weekend getting that car checked out by the independent mechanic and then book the car in for a service with Audi.
